Brodie
Label Services was established over 20 years ago by Tom Brodie. It took
on limited status in April 1996 following its move in the previous year
to much larger premises and is still run by Tom with his wife and codirector,
Marion.
Tom's engineering
background and Marion's Honours Degree in design provide an ideal technical
foundation on which they continue to build.
Although
the company now employs 22 people, it has never lost sight of its roots
and remains a family run organisation with a friendly and motivated workforce
providing careful attention to a quality of service second-to-none. It
is testament to this same quality of service that the company's First
ever customer has continuously traded with Brodie Label Services and remains
one of its top clients almost a quarter of a century later.
Brodie Label Services manufactures self-adhesive labels from a wide range of materials, substrates and other laminates. UV varnishing, foil blocking, sprocket punching, sequential barcoding, laser and copier labels and consecutive numbering are amongst the processes available to its clients.
A dedicated small order department handling short run work is managed with the same attention to detail and customer care as the mainframe section of the print workshop which includes six-colour rotary letterpress and flexographic presses - the former being a recent major investment for the company.
Considerable investment emphasis has been placed on the company's design facility which incorporates a fully integrated state of the art Apple Macintosh system with full imagesetting facilities and an ISDN link, allowing customers to drastically reduce the time involved in originating orders.
The company is exceptional in the respect that it incorporates an extensive engineering workshop providing tooling and dies for the various presses. This unusual 'in-house' facility keeps costs and time involved in the originating process to a minimum.
The provision of quality and service are paramount at Brodie Labels. The company is approved to ISO9001 standards and has recently gained the prestigious accreditation of "investor in people".
The firm
is actively seeking various global standards accreditation - a prerequisite
of supplying many of its hightech applications to the rapidly growing
electronics industry. It has a prominent place in the commercial sector,
being members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen and the Glasgow Chamber
of Commerce.
"We can provide accurate information on legislation governing the text
content of labels invaluable to the food and chemical industries with
the everchanging European Community specifications," says Marion Brodie.
"Our strong engineering background and experience in designing and manufacturing
bespoke labelling machinery means that we can offer sound advice on label
application.
"With many years experience in the packaging industry, we have considerable knowledge of a broad spectrum of packaging suppliers and are happy to help our customers source requirements outwith our own field of expertise.
The company's customers hail from many different disciplines and, to name a few, the food, distilling, chemical, pharmaceutical and electronic industries are all supplied by Brodie Label Services.
"We have also been at the forefront in the UK of the design and manufacture of specialist decals for the golf and leisure industry for many years almost since the company's inception," says Brodie.
The company's aims and objectives are the subject of a flexible business plan, the main emphasis being on continuing to listen to the needs of its customers and monitoring its quality of service to ensure it is exactly allied to customer requirements. A continuous research and development programme will ensure that the company keeps pace with what is an exciting era in the history of packaging.
